NEBCO and batteries: modulations, energy balance and intelligent control
We continue our look at the NEBCO mechanism (France’s demand-response block exchange mechanism) as it applies to behind-the-meter batteries.
This mechanism lets participants monetise shifts in consumption.
With a battery, this shift can be made painlessly: it discharges at a given moment to reduce the site’s consumption, then recharges later to increase it.
Taking part in NEBCO also means respecting a framework: the aim is not to create consumption artificially, but to shift it in time.
In other words, the volume of upward modulations must not exceed the volume of downward modulations.
This is precisely what makes intelligent control essential: the site’s behaviour has to be forecast, the right volumes declared, and the energy balance required by the market rules respected.
At Nexen GridTech, we control behind-the-meter batteries to make this flexibility monetisable while taking into account each site’s own usage patterns and constraints.
